1- Are all spices organic?

  • All our spices are 100% pesticide and chemical free (all Kitchen Grocery Spices are lab tested). However, organic marking or certificates in India are very expensive, and it takes ages to get it done. In this case, if we have a buyer requirement for organic spices we will specifically produce the blends for you and get the mark on your spice products. Organic spices cost a bit more compared to our prices listed on the web shop.

2- Are they gluten free?

  • All our blends are gluten free, no added colour, no preservative, no MSG, no artificial flavour and no taste enhancers.

3- What is the shelf-life of our spices?

  • Our spices have a use by date of 12 months on the product label. However, our customers have managed to store the spices for more than 12 months. Our spices have strong flavours and fresh as we take immense care to source yearly and aim for quality of the product. Therefore, 12 months is our most conservative guideline.

4- What is the best way to store spices?

  • Store them in a an airtight container in a cool, dry place. The powdered spices stay fresh and retain their potency best when stored in glass. Do not store the spices in direct sunlight, as this will shorten their shelf life.

5- Which spices do you recommend for Indian food?
Most essential spices for general Indian food are Garam Masala, Turmeric Powder, Coriander Powder, Cumin Powder, Ginger Powder, Salt and Black Pepper and finally Red Chilli Powder. For specific dishes we recommend you to use:

  • Biriyani Masala for cooking Biriyani rice.

  • Dal Masala for cooking Kali Dal or Dal Tadka.

  • Chhole Masala for cooking Chhole Batura.

  • Chaat Masala for preparing Indian street food (Chaat) like Pani Puri, Sev Puri, etc.

  • Sabji Masala for cooking Indian vegetarian dishes like Gobi ki Sabji, Aloo Maatar, Paneer Tikka, Bhindi Masala.

  • Sambar Masala for cooking south Indian dishes like Dosa and Idly. Sambar is basically the sauce you use as a dip for Dosa and Idly.

  • Pav Bhaji Masala for cooking Pav Bhaji. Pav means bread buns and Bhaji means vegetable curry.

  • Tea Masala for preparing the world famous Indian Masala Chai (Tea).

6- Which spices do you recommend for non-Indian food?

  • General non-Indian food you can use Black Pepper, Cinnamon Powder, Cardamom Powder, Basil, Oregano, Rosemary, Chilli Flakes, Thyme. To add an extra spicy flavour we recommend using Kashmiri Chilli Powder as it is milder than Red Chilli Powder, Kitchen King Masala(vegetarian curry spice) or Special Mix Masala (Malvani curry spice). Kitchen King Masala goes really well with 2-minute Maggie noodles.
